I’m running two antivirus programs on my machine. Today, I went looking for a shrimp recipe on epicurious.com and each time i found a page Windows Live OneCare said it “did not allow the file to open.” After I found my recipe, I decided to take a look.

First, I decided to learn more online by clicking on the link in the alert window. I clicked on it and Windows Live OneCare’s Virus Encyclopedia didn’t have any information on the virus, which as one might note appears to be a visual basic script (VBS). I then googled the virus name and found nothing.

Next, I found the file in C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\UserName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 and ran Norton Antivirus against the file. NAV found nothing.

Here are three reports from the OneCare Support Log generated, I believe, by running OneCareSupport.exe, the results of which Microsoft wants to see once you’ve requested support. Essentially, there were 30 or so of these warnings from OneCare over the course of browsing epicurious.com for my recipe. Each error came when opening a new page.

Next, I opened a couple of the files that had been identified as viruses. Because of the problems involved with putting code on a page, and the addled nature of my brain this morning, I’ve included a screenshot of one here.

As mentioned, Microsoft is looking into this error. I will update when I get more information.
