Windows Vista

Black Hat 2006

Black Hat 2006 USA starts tomorrow in Los Vegas and has an interesting schedule, with sponsors including Microsoft and Cisco. Apparently, Microsoft is showing off the security of Internet Explorer 7 and Vista at the show.

I would love to go to the conference. Perhaps next year…

If you’re interested in a taste, there are copies of the Power Point presentations from Black Hat 2006 Europe and Fed available, with audio archives forthcoming.

If you for some reason think that this is only for illegitimate root kiddies, think again. It can become an important part of your skillset, if you take the time.

Last night Microsoft sent out an email announcing the availability of an interim build of Vista Beta 2 (Build 5456). The build includes the return of List View, for who mourned its absence in the earlier release.

The email last night included the following announcement:

“We are pleased to announce the availability of Microsoft® Windows Vista Build 5456!! Many, many of the things you’ve reported in Beta 2 have been fixed. While we believe this build to be generally better than beta 2, it is an interim build and has not been through a rigorous test pass.”

The download is available to beta testers immediately.
